Sometimes people are shitty but instead of talking about them I thought it’d be way better for everyone to talk about the people making the literary world a better, more inclusive, place.
I compiled a list of books I’ve read, or I’m going to read, with trans main characters writen by trans authors!
You know that feeling when the internet blows up about something and you are like “… we already knew this?” I’m there right now.
Onto the books!
We start with an anthology for those who want variety in their queer rep
Another anthology, this one by just one author, it has retellings of classical fairytales but with their main characters being nonbinary and using neo-pronouns. Also, the cover is really pretty
Anna-Marie McLemore is a fantastic writer and they recently came out as non-binary. Their books all deal with gender and self-identity in some way but for this post I’m recommending
Next comes a fantasy that blew my mind when I read it. It’s based on chinese folklore and has a society where everybody gets to pick a gender when they come of age, but there’s also a ton of magic, monsters and technology!
We all know the story of Peter Pan but what happens if Peter decided to get out of Neverland and go live in “the real world”? He doesn’t fit the way he should but when he comes back to Neverland everything’s changed there as well…
And to finish the list I have something for all the contemporary readers out there
Have you read any of these? Do you have any more recs?? Let me know
Remember that all of us matter, no matter what a certain white woman says
