Reader Problems Tag

I took this tag from Emma @Emma’sChapterĀ and decided to rant about our shared problems for the weekend

You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

I have three parameters:

  1. If a book just came out
  2. If I have an ARC that I need to review
  3. If I impulse-bought the book and now I have to read it because money

Usually it’s one of the three so I’ll have no problem, if there’s multiple books then just whatever I feel like fits my mood better

Youā€™re halfway through a book and youā€™re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?

If I’m over 50% I’ll mark it as “read” on goodreads and rate it, if not I’ll just take it out of my lists and be done with it. There’s no point in suffering though a book you don’t like

(unless it’s for external reasons, like school or a friend who really wants you to read it, then I’ll just skim it until the end)

The end of the year is coming and youā€™re so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

Two ways I always end up falling back on

  • Novellas: short books you can read on a day
  • Comic books: short booksĀ with pictures

The covers of a series you love do not match. How do you cope?

I talked about this on my least/most favorite cover changes post and I’ll say it again:Ā covers that don’t match are the bane of my existence. I’ll either not buy the books, just have them on ebook or put them on different parts of my book shelf, so I can’t see they don’t match

Every one and their mother loves a book you really donā€™t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?

I have a large group of reader friends and at least one of them is bound to either share my opinion or not care that I rant at them about it. If not, I can always find someone online who dislikes something popular,,

Youā€™re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?

Close the book and read something else, pickn a fluffy fanfic or something utterly boring but anything that will counteract the saddness so people won’t know I haveĀ feelings

A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but youā€™ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?

Have I told you about my August plans? I’m literally in that situation and while I’d usually just read the goodreads summary I’ve decided that this time I’m rereading as much as possible.

You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask?

I…. Don’t? I honestly don’t get the widespread panic readers have with lending out books. It feels so selfish to me. I insist that my friends take my books, I practically throw them at them so they can read all the fantastic stories I love.

Have you all never been to a library? What’s so scary about having a private library with people you already know and care about???

Youā€™ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?

Watch Netflix, go outside, play hockey. Whatever activity that doesn’t involve books is a good way of getting over a reading slump. You know the saying “distance makes the heart grow fonder”? Well, do that with books. Give yourself time to rest and don’t force it, when you are ready to read again you’ll know

There are so many new books coming out that youā€™re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?

ALL OF THEM, then I remember I don’t have that kind of money….Resultado de imagen para reader problems gif

I buy the ones from my favorite authors first, them from series I’m currently reading and then books I’ve had recommended to me or I’ve seen around

After youā€™ve bought the new books you canā€™t wait to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf before you get to them?

Not actually that long! Since I can’t buy many books I tend to read them quickly…. or I let them rot for a year or so, there’s literally no inbetween and I’m so sorry to all those titles who are still waiting……

  1. I don’t mind lending out books either! I have a couple signed and/or expensive copies that I won’t lend out, but like 98% of my books I will lend out without hesitation! And if I have a friend that really wants to borrow one of the 2% I will buy them their own copy šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
