Settings I’d Like to See More Of (Or At All)
As you may have noticed, I love fantasy and one of the reasons is because the worlds can be so different from reality that you’d struggle finding similarities or so alike that you’d surprise yourself wondering if the author actually saw fairies in a forest. My point here is that setting is a huge thing for me, and here I bring you six books that I want an entire extended universe from.
A world where magic can be woven into fabric and magic comes at a steep price, somewhere full of colours (although not without shadows) and inspired by chinese tradition.
What I love about this one is the dreamers, we are introduced into a world much bigger than the original trilogy and we see these people who can just make things out of dreams
Another one inspired in China, this setting has magic and technology at war, some people can control things with their minds while others learn how to get by with just their brains. There’s also the gender system which would be wonderful to have everywhere
I love the sea and I love magic, in the second installment of Port Lewis Witches we get a lot of both. It’s folk magic with shapeshifters and openly queer main characters. It’s a setting that we’ve seen many times: small town with secrets, but it’s also new in the dynamics among the characters.
Who doesn’t want to explore more of Red Londond? Or the pasts of Black and White London??
Here we have this indian-inspired world full of magical creatures we don’t often see in fantasy and characters driven by completely human emotions who perform decidedly inhuman tasks for the sake of love.
And last, I have a setting I’d like to see (and if you got recs then tell me pls). I’d like to see some South American fantasy, I don’t mean Mexican (which I’ve seen and it’s lovely), I mean something based on the Incas, or the other natives from this side of the continent. I want to see a fearless girl praying to the Pachamama or a boy chanting spells in guaraní. Just something from home to remind others of the magic we can create south of the equator.

A book about Black and White London’s past would be so cool 😮 although we got quite a bit in A Conjuring of Light. I had dreams too on my list, such a fun setting! So excited for the The Raven Boys Ronan spin off!

Dreams is the best and weirdest setting ever, I love books that deal with them being chaotic and unpredictable

Oh, most of those are on my TBR and I agree that those are such fine concepts! And in addition to the magic woven into the fabric — I would love more magic woven into tattoos and art!
