WWW Wednesday

WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words.

It’s basically to check in, see what I’m reading at real-time.

The Three Ws are:

  • What are you currently reading?

  • What did you recently finish reading?

  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

(More like: what aren’t you reading? I’m on like five books at the same time.)

23798203 Fire from Heaven by Mary Renault. It’s a novel about the live of Alexander the great, and it’s amazing. The author had so much knowledge of history but she’s also a novelist so we get to see the little moments between the great feats of bravery; like how he met the love of his life, Hephaistion, and how their relationship grew. Nothing in here is straight-washed, the author herself was a lesbian. One of my friends already read it and I’m sending her pictures of my progress every day, we yell about how gay/ace Alexander is. It’s packed full of history, lovely descriptions, amusing dialogues, and it will turn anyone into an Alexander the Great fan. I’m having a lot of fun with it although it’s a bit thick.

What did you recently finish reading?

35684941 It came out yesterday and by nightfall I had already read it. This is an adaptation from the podcast The Adventure Zone, by the McElroy family. It’s the first time I read a podcast-to-graphic-novel adaptation but it didn’t disappoint.
I loved the art style for each character and their expressions and demeanor were spot-on. The story was already dear to me and this version just makes me SO happy.
Really good GN even if you have yet to listen to The Adventure Zone: Balance. I talked about the podcast on here if you are curious about it. If you are looking for a fun and lighthearted GN in a fantasy setting then this is the one for you!

What do you think you’ll read next?

25014114Listen, the amazing Adam Silvera is coming to Buenos Aires (!!!) and I have until then to read another one of his books. I already read They Both Die at the End and it destroyed me so I have high hopes as in: I’m going to die for History is All You Left Me

I can’t believe he’s coming here, I don’t even know what to say!! Any tips for meeting one of your favourite authors would be appreciated

  2. AHHHH I’m so so glad you’re enjoying Fire from Heaven!! ❤ It constantly amazes me how Renault crams all that history without losing any of the engaging prose. And my copy of TAZ finally shipped today so fingers crossed I'll get it by next week.
Also, super jealous that you're going to meet Adam! I guess my only advice is don't get too nervous and trip and ram into the signing table? (Not one of my proudest moments)
