Mid-Year Book Freakout

HOW IS IT JULY ALREADY? I’m not ready for the second half of 2018, people…

Today’s tag is brought to you by Marie @DrizzeAndHurricaneBooks you should totally see their tag, they did it with their sister so you get twice the content! Isn’t that awesome?Ā I should try to get my sister to collaborate on a post one day…

Best

Basically, this is just a posts to recap thisĀ first half of 2018 and how my reading went. Let’s get to it!

BEST BOOK YOUā€™VE READ YET IN 2018

33385229

This book is my cause of death, dehydration by tears… So beautiful and heartbreaking and fun and perfect. Here’s my review

BEST SEQUEL YOUā€™VE READ SO FAR IN 2018

33918887

This is the best sequel because it was its own book. The story moves forward with another of the Mortiz sisters and it’s a crazy ride from the very beginning. Review

NEW RELEASE YOU HAVENā€™T READ YET BUT WANT TO

36142487My Most anticipated reads Post

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

3695259636260157

Yes, there’s two of themĀ fight me I did a Waiting on Wednesday Post for Balnca & Roja and a post for the released Sneak Peek of What if it’s Us?

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

lady-midnight-9781442357112_hr

I expected nothing and still was let down… Here’s the review

BIGGEST SURPRISE

37642899

It’s got witches with dark magic, elemental magic and all kinds of magics, the main character is a gay trans man who falls in love and starts a relationship with his crush, is accepted for who he is (as a witch, his gender is never an issue) and is just a really good novella.

FAVOURITE NEW AUTHOR

(New to me, at least!)

el-prisionero-del-cielo

He is a Spanish author, he wrote the Labyrinth of Forgotten Books Series. His writing is fantastic, he transports you to Barcelona in the fifties and makes you believe in dark mysteries and magic libraries.

NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSHĀ BFF

12316156_10156499117085192_5458748039154049206_n

Juliet went through quite the summer and came out a different, better person. I’d love to hang out with her and talk about intersectional feminism, queer theory, and just life in general. This is one of my first reviews on this blog…

NEWEST FAVOURITE CHARACTER

2d2ad6b3-cfdf-42ba-b4ec-60b40cde2e94-chainbreakerCan I pick the entire cast??? Seriously, I loved the characters from Chainbreaker, they were complex and relatable and Colton is just so sweet! I talk about them in-depth on the reviewĀ but Daphne going to india and finding herself a stranger in her father’s land was so real.

BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

24974996

Do I need to explain this one? If you haven’t read it then go check it out, if you have, come yell with me on this post

BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

31625039

Cute contemporary? Check. Fun and realistic main character? Check. A nice romance? Check. Awesome and on point asexual rep? Triple check! This book has everything to make me happy. Here are my thoughts

FAVOURITE BOOK TO FILM ADAPTATION

Is this even a question?

FAVOURITE POST YOU HAVE DONE THIS YEAR

Welp, I’m answering twiceĀ again

Quotes and ramblings

This is the definition of a fangirling, messy af, post. I loved writing it, just going back and forth on my Simon VS copy and rereading the pages I had marked was so much fun. It’s not tidy or well constructed, the criteria used were subjective, and you know what? It’s my most viewed post to date. This is proof that you don’t have to write like someone else to get people on your blog, just show how much you love the book and others will enjoy it!

Y ESCAPE

My first author interview! And with a latina author who writes delightfully magical books! Talking with Zoraida was a great experience and she was the nicest person to me and all the other bloggers on the street team. We exchanged emails so that we could have stuff written down but the best part was the Skype call we all had with her where we got to chat and get to know each other.

MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOUā€™VE BOUGHT THIS YEAR

25203675

This book is beautiful in all senses. First, the cover is stunning, the colours and the design and everything on it is breath-taking. Second, the writing is superb, the descriptions are so rich and evocative and the dialogue is a thing of beauty. If you wanna know more I wrote a full post on it.

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR

so-many-books

I’ll be posting a TBR list soon, probably… I hope?

I’m tagging everyone!

But especially Rachael @LetItRambleOnĀ becuase she said on twitter that she wanted to do it!

  2. Aww I love your Simon Quotes post! And I still can’t believe “But Iā€™m gay. GAY. Gaaaaaaaayyyyy” is a thing that Becky actually wrote and is actually canon. šŸ˜€
And I just found out today Carlos Ruiz Zafon has another book in his series coming out this year (in english, at least) and I can’t believe I didn’t find out sooner!

I think that may be the translation for his last book? šŸ¤” The last that came out here was said to be the end of the series

  3. I read ā€œThe Prince of Mistā€ by Carlos Ruiz Zafon a couple years ago because ā€“ and hereā€™s how you know Iā€™m a bookish person ā€“ the cover was pretty. I was completely taken aback by his hauntingly beautiful writing style and am dying to read more. Iā€™m glad you enjoyed his work! šŸ˜€
