Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Books I’d Slay a Lion to Get Early
We are going there.
I love new releases and seeing authors hype up their books on twitter is super fun and make me pre-order at lest four books each month. Still, there are some books that we can’t help but need right this second and we are willing to slay lions(?) to get them early.
Here is a comprehensive list of books I need but I have to wait for.
by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera
Expected publication: October 9th 2018 by HarperTeen
I think everyone wants this book but there’s a lot of people that already got it! You can request an ARC on Edelweiss.
Unfortunately I’m not important enough to get an ARC myself. I got denied pretty quickly. Bummer.
Still I know I’m going to love this book because I already love the authors, so I’m pre-ordering it.
Expected publication: January 29th 2019 by Imprint
The next book on the Grishaverse. We now follow king Nikolai in his quest to bring actual peace to Ravka.
I have yet to read the Grisha Trilogy, I’ve only read the Six of Crows duology but it was great and makes you want to read everything by Leigh Bardugo.
The cover was just released, and it’s perfect.
by Tara Sim
Expected publication: January 9th 2019 by Sky Pony Press
I’ve been waiting for this book from the moment I put down Chainbreaker and it left me with that heartbreaking cliff-hanger. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS. At last we’ve got a title already.
Published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
When are we getting this? No idea. I just know I want this to be published already so that I can know what’s going on in the lives of these two adorable young men.
The first book was incredible and I couldn’t put it down, that characters were so realistic an their world so similar to mine.
by Mark Oshiro
Expected publication: May 22nd 2018 by Tor Teen
This book caught my attention because the author’s last name is the same as a friend of mine ‘s. But then I read the summary and I was hooked.
A story of resilience and loss, love and family, Mark Oshiro’s Anger is a Gift testifies to the vulnerability and strength of a community living within a system of oppression.
Expected publication: January 8th 2019 by Tor.com
Fourth installment of the Wayward Children series. This series is about a home for all the children who traveled to magical worlds and then had to come back. The first book was a complete surprise for me since they are darker than they seems by the premise but the storytelling is amazing and captivating. This book has a whole cast of new characters but since it’s in the same Home then I expect to see at least a couple from the previous ones.
7.. Bruja Born
Expected publication: June 5th 2018 by Sourcebooks Fire
I already got this one early! And no lions were harmed in the securing of the ARC. The author and publishing team were really nice and agreed to send me a copy so that I could talk about it and let me tell you: It’s everything I ever wanted and more. You can read the full review here
8.. A Blade So Black
by L. McKinney
Expected publication: September 25th 2018 by Imprint
Alice in Wonderland inspired fantasy with a kick-ass main character that coexists in both Wonderland and the real world. She kills monsters by night and goes to school during the day.
It’s the perfect mix of magic and reality. I also love Alice re-tellings and I’m excited to get to this one.
9.. Blanca & Roja
Expected publication: October 9th 2018 by Feiwel & Friends
I sold my soul to Anna-Marie when I read the first few chapters of When the moon was ours and I don’t regret a thing. She is the queen of magical realisms and her writing is exquisite, whimsical and clear at the same time. She manages to transport you to the places she writes.
It’s also one of the prettiest covers I’ve seen AND THE TITLE IS IN SPANISH (I know that doesn’t change anything but it’s nice)
Expected publication: Not even the author knows
I just know this
asshole guy pretends to make us all wait like twenty years before we get this book. He’s released side-stories and he’s active in social media but ask him about how the book is going and it’s a nonstarter. He is one of my favourite authors and I fell in love with the world and characters of the Kingkiller Chronicle a while ago but we got the 10th anniversary edition of The Name of the Wind before we got even a cover for the third book.
That’s it for this TTT! I hope you liked it.
