I saw this tag on my feed thanks to Bookallure and #NotAll seemed like a fun thing to do. Let’s discern those books that did something right from the rest, I guess
This tag was originally started by the Orang-utan librarian.
#NOTALL COVER CHANGES
– A COVER CHANGE YOU LIKED
– AN ADAPTATION YOU LOVE MORE THAN THE BOOK
(I know I’m gonna get some hate for this but remember that this is just my opinion and if you don’t agree is okay)
I liked Shadowhunters the TV show way more than The Mortal Instruments series, and I really wanted to like the books but it was stronger than me. I didn’t like the characters, or the pacing, and Clary was sooo annoying that I didn’t want to keep reading after the first book (though I gave the third book a try as well). The show, on the other hand, I adore.
Sure, the first season had its problems (those special effects???) but I liked the characters and the actors were perfect for their roles. I also fell in platonic-love with Magus Bane but, can you really blame me?
– A TROPE YOU’LL NEVER TIRE OF SEEING
It may seem silly but I just love that moment when the main character and the love interest are arguing (usually because MC wants to do something stupid and/or self-sacrificing) and then it’s like:
-It's my life, why do you even care?? -Because I love you/care about you!
Yeah, you know what I’m talking about. At that point I’m smiling like a fool and making high-pitched noises
– YOU INSTALOVED THIS INSTACOUPLE
Let’s be real, Simon, from Simon vs the Homo Sapiens agenda by Becky Albertalli, falls in insta-love with every possible candidate. and I love him but this boy is a mess. Of course he would fall in insta-love with his true soul mate: Blue as soon as he saw him and that’s because he insta-fell for everyone he thought could be Blue.
Protect this Gay Mess (also, like, #same)
#NOTALL LOVE TRIANGLES
– AN EXAMPLE OF LOVE TRIANGLE DONE WELL
I think I may re read these soon, it’s been a while
– BOOKISH PARENTS THAT, YOU KNOW, PARENT!
This parents actually know what’s going on in their kids’ lives. And they don’t have it easy. One of their kids is the chosen one the other can see the spirits of the dead and the other is a teenager with an active social life.
Still, you see the parents all throughout the book, trying to help all of their kids and then some. Sure, they take a trip at some point (because they have jobs) but they come back and have a huge part in the resolution.
Also they always support their kids no matter what
– A VILLAIN YOU LOVE
Maybe not completely right but he DID have a point, if he wasn’t a mass murderer then I’d be on his side. I mean, the humans did horrible things to mutants and treat them like garbage, of course the mutants will rebel and want to kill all of them. It’s common sense, people.
#NOTALL CHOSEN ONES
– A CHOSEN ONE YOU CAN GET BEHIND
Fangirl turned most badass character ever. She is Laura: Ascended Fangirl/Goddess Persephone from The Wicked +the Divine. She is the typical protagonist who is just a normal person and suddenly discovers she has the best powers ever and joins her heroes while looking amazing after her make-over.
Her design is stunning and I’d be her fangirl in this universe, without a doubt.
She is definitely a chosen-one I can and will get behind, even though in the last two volumes it was kind of touch and go for a while
#NOTALL HYPED BOOKS
– A BOOK THAT LIVED UP TO THE ACCLAIM
Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo. I actually took a long while to read these books because of the hype. Turns out these are worth the hype (!!) for me at least. I listened to the first on audiobook and I’d totally recommend the experience. It’s just so much better to hear each character’s voice when it’s their POV-
#NOTALL *INSERT FAVOURITE GENRE*
– A BOOK YOU’RE NOT KEEN ON FROM YOUR FAVOURITE GENRE
There are A LOT. My favorite genre is YA fantasy, so you can imagine how many options I have and, statistically, there will be a high number that don’t particularly entice me.
I’m not gonna name names because there is no point in talking about things I don’t like and I may mention your favorite book and then make you feel bad, so let’s skip to the next question
#NOTALL *INSERT LEAST FAVOURITE GENRE*
– A BOOK YOU LIKED FROM A GENRE YOU DON’T OFTEN READ
I am not someone for poetry, even less for modern poetry. I just feel like, if you take the rhyme away then there’s not much point? It’s just prose with a lot of spaces.
BUT I read Nejma by Nayyirah Waheed and I absolutely loved it. The poems made me feel so much and I felt a kind of connection to the author, it was beautiful.
Since I liked it so much I tried other poetry collections but I was left wanting, doesn’t mean I won’t keep trying but it’s a genre that I won’t pick up just because without a good rec
And that was the #NotAll book tag!!! I really enjoyed doing this one
I tag everyone reading this to do this tag.
