This is a tag from LostInPages and it’s been sitting in my drafts since forever so this week I decided to finish it and share it with all of you.
It’s a tag about book things that totally should’ve happened
I love books and I trust authors (normally) to do right by them but let’s be real, there are some things that we all would love to change if we could
there’s a reason fanfiction is a thing
Readers are notorious for their varying opinions, especially when it comes to our favorite books. We had some fun answering these “totally should’ve” questions and giving our opinions on a few book-related topics!
1. Totally should’ve gotten a sequel
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. This is a book about the life of Achilles told from the point of view of his boyfriend Patroclus.
I don’t want a sequel exactly, it ended as it should and it destroyed me accordingly. But I would like a book like this about Alexander the Great, maybe from the point of view of his boyfriend but I’m not picky. I just really enjoyed the YA take on a classic like the Iliad and the representation that was on the original tale and was subsequently erased from common knowledge (ie Achilles and Patroclus were NOT cousins)
Magnus Chase and the gods of Asgard by Rick Riordan. I have yet to read the last book (i know, sorry) but I’d like a whole series about the other heroes of Valhalla. We know Magnus’ heroic video was edited to look funny but imagine how many people got to Valhalla by doing dumb heroic stuff? Just give me a spin-off of the brave Valkyries on the editing room trying to make those messes seem heroic enough to be there.
3. An author who totally should write more books
Angie Thomas, the fantastic writer of THUG! And you know what? She DOES have a new book on the way
We are SO blessed
5. Totally should’ve ended differently
I’ll give you the Sun by Jandy Nelson. Don’t get me wrong, it does have a good and happy ending, my only issue with it is that it felt rushed and like everything got solved far too easily
I talk about it more in-depth on the review but to avoid spoilers: it’s a lot of build up for a too simple ending
6. Totally should’ve had a movie franchise
Here I have to agree with LostInPages: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Seeing Ketterdam on the big screen would be amazing and Fjerda and all the different settings with a big budget. Also every scene and conversation. I just think these particular books would be perfect for a movie (or ten)
7. Totally should’ve had a TV show
If only so we can see the exy matches on-screen. I already love hockey so I know I’d love to see this.
Also, it could expand even more on the characters’ backsotries and I think it would be great to see such flawed people represented on-screen without being judged. They are little shits (most of them) but they are good people and survivors.
Totally should’ve had only one point of view
I’m changing this question because I don’t read books with unnecessary POVs
8. Totally should’ve had more points of view
Captive Prince by S.U. Pacat. In the books we get only one POV: Damen’s and I think the story would be so much richer if we also got Laurent’s.
It’s great with just the one it has, this is me asking for a novella or maybe a full book with the most important scenes on the trilogy.
He has the scheming mind and he’s always trying to be ten steps ahead.
Also it’d be fun to see him slowly fall in love with a man he thought he would despise
9. Totally should have a cover change
I love pretty covers, I’ve been known for buying books solely because the covers was beautiful and I couldn’t help myself. I’m shallow and even if someone I really trust recommends me the book if it has a bad cover it will go to the bottom of my TBR. That said, there are very few covers with real people on it that are pretty, I don’t know why but most covers with people on it are just cringy for me and I tend to avoid at all cost.
I know there’s a movement now to release covers with POC on them and that’s amazing, I’m talking more about generic white people hugging/kissing or generic white girls with dresses or weapons that make no sense (all of you have already thought of at least five books that fit this description)
10. Totally should’ve kept the original covers
I LIKED the original cover for Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. The silhouettes and the simple colors were good. I don’t know why they’s release the new cover that makes it look kind of embarrassing to read in public..
11. Totally should’ve stopped at book one
Again, I’m changing the question because there’s nothing better than reading a book and THEN finding out there’s more. I DNF book that don’t entertain me enough to read the sequel.
Let me talk about a book that should have stopped at the end and have no disappointing epilogue. Take a guess
talking about ugly covers
AND there was NO BOOK after this one
just when I though JKR couldn’t let me down further than the epilogue she publishes that very bad no good fan fiction. Ugh
If you want to talk to me about how Harry OBVIOUSLY should have become a DADA teacher don’t doubt sending me a DM or yelling in the comments
Now that I’m effectively annoyed with the world, let’s wrap this up
I tag everyone who wants to be tagged and hope you all have fun doing this
