My reading habits tag

I saw this tag at TheHufflepuffNerdette‘s blog and it looked fun. Since they tagged everyone then that means I was tagged also indisputable logic

So here you have it: My mess of a reading life!

QUESTION #1: DO YOU HAVE A CERTAIN PLACE AT HOME FOR READING?

Not really. I prefer to read either on my bed before going to sleep or in the garden at early morning, but truth is I will read anywhere I am.

QUESTION #2: BOOKMARK OR A RANDOM PIECE OF PAPER?

Bookmarks for me. I love having pretty bookmarks on my books and also I use random pieces of paper to mark pages I especially liked so I can go back to read them after I finished the book. If I used random paper for everything it’d get confusing pretty fast.

QUESTION #3: CAN YOU STOP READING ANYTIME YOU WANT OR DO YOU HAVE TO STOP AT A CERTAIN PAGE, CHAPTER, PART, ETC.?

I can but I don’t like it. If there’s something that requires immediate attention the I can stop even mid-sentence and come back later. When I stop reading because I want to put down the book then it had to be a new chapter. When the chapters are far too long or I’m just at the beginning then I stop at a page number that ends in 0 or 5.

QUESTION #4: DO YOU EAT OR DRINK WHILE READING?

I drink water constantly, aside from that unless I’m starving or can’t put down the book then I prefer to have my hands free and clean to turn the pages.

QUESTION #5: CAN YOU READ WHILE LISTENING TO MUSIC/WATCHING TV?

  • Music: Yes
  • TV: Never

My attention span is tragically short. The music I listen to has to be either instrumental or a play-list I’ve heard a thousand times before, otherwise I will be paying attention to the lyrics or whatever is happening on the TV, even if it’s just commercials.

QUESTION #6: ONE BOOK AT A TIME, OR SEVERAL AT ONCE?

Several at one have I mentioned my limited attention span? So I will be reading a book and suddenly something else will catch my eye and I will start another book and so on I actually made a post on how I can’t finish books because I will get distracted and start reading something else. In the sidebar I have my currently reading books and I’m so proud that I managed to bring it down to less than 10.

QUESTION #7: READING AT HOME OR EVERYWHERE?

Everywhere. I have a lot of distractions when I’m home so I tend to read more and for longer periods of time when I’m somewhere else. The most I read is while I’m working, as a receptionist I have a lot of time between answering calls and managing documents and people and stuff like that.

QUESTION #8: READING OUT LOUD OR SILENTLY IN YOUR HEAD?

Silently, let’s be real I read in English and speak in Spanish, I have no idea how half of the words I read are pronounced and don’t get me started on fantasy names

QUESTION #9: DO YOU READ AHEAD OR SKIP PAGES?

Nah, if I don’ care about a specific part I will do the ancient tradition of diagonal reading: where you read the paragraph from top left to bottom right and mange to get a sense of all that happened without wasting much time.

QUESTION #10: BREAKING THE SPINE OR KEEPING IT NEW?

I like to see a well loved book as much as anyone, see it flip open to the most re-read passages feels like looking at someone’s brain when they read BUT I’m also callow and deeply shallow so my spines look perfect on my bookshelves (except for second hand books where I enjoy what I said before)

QUESTION #11: DO YOU WRITE IN BOOKS?

No, I don’t judge people who do it. I quite like to see little comments or underlinings on borrowed or second-hand books but I personally don’t do it. When I was younger my family was… not too well financially. So everything I got I had to make it last for as long as possible, that mean that “damaging” a book was sacrilege because that sh*t was either expensive or from the library and I couldn’t afford to be banned from the library.
